The 90% Rule That Could Change Content Marketing

One of the biggest changes Gen AI is bringing to marketing is speed. You can now create a very good two-minute animated video to explain a complex idea without waiting for corporate marketing, an agency, or a production team. For social media and email campaigns, that matters. The animated video doesn’t always need to be perfect. If it is clear, engaging, and 90% polished, that is often enough to get the point across. It can even help you test whether your point of view or positioning resonates with your current or prospective customers – a highly effective and fast feedback loop.

I saw this firsthand recently while working on positioning for a network security client. The topic was complex, so I turned it into a two-minute animated video using Claude. The process was more iterative than I expected (took about 5 hours from start to finish) because I started with an outline instead of a finished script and kept changing the content as the story developed. I also found the AI-generated voice too robotic, so I switched to captions. Even with those limitations, I was very happy with the result. It explained the idea more simply and visually than a set of slides probably could.

That is what feels different now. Creating an animated video is no longer something you have to save for the big campaign. It can become part of everyday marketing. You can take an idea, turn it into something visual, refine it quickly, and put it to work in a LinkedIn post, a social media campaign, a drip email, or a sales follow-up. You may still want professional production for the flagship piece. But for much of marketing, speed and clarity may matter more than the final 10% of polish. I’ll share the video once my client is ready to make it public

About me: I believe that the Achilles heel for most software companies is a lack of good execution in areas that drive growth/generate value – product marketing, M&A integration, revenue operations and demand generation. So, I started a focused consulting practice to help SaaS and enterprise software clients address their issues in these areas. The blog posts are based on my client engagements, as well as senior leadership roles in these areas. My bio is at https://www.linkedin.com/in/applicationsmarketing/
